Living at Japan

Well, well, well, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? :)

Well, because MEXT enrollment (from embassy) has been closed, the truth is I don’t really know what to say here. So, maybe just a bit talk about  living in Japan. Well, like you’ve already know (maybe), living cost in Japan is expensive (sorry I didn’t add “very” here :D ). You can check it here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/jun/30/city-costs-living (I don’t know whether this is reliable or not :p ).

Living in Japan, especially in big cities like Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka etc, are expensive enough to take away at least half of your scholarship income. Well, lets see in more detail.

1. Housing rent
Basically, the bigger the city where you live, the more expensive you’ll need to pay for this. In Tokyo and Yokohama area, you need to spend around 5万円 (50,000円)for single room. The more facility you’ve got in your room, the more expensive you’ll get (like AC, private kitchen, private bathroom). Well, if you want to find cheaper one, then also consider the age of the building, the older the cheaper, it goes like that. Also don’t forget about station, the closest your house to the station, the more expensive you’ll need to pay for it. :)

2. Foods
Well, if you don’t need foods to eat, then please skip this. :D
If you want to eat outside, I mean you didn’t cook by yourself, then you can eat at campus cafe, family restaurant etc. Well, I’ve spent around 1500 yen a day when I was eating all day outside. As for reference: Tenpura (around 500 yen), gyuudon (around 280-380 yen), saizeriya (each menu around 299-499yen), takoyaki (around 300yen per 6 balls), onigiri (100-120yen).
As for they who cook their own food, rice is around 1000-1500yen / 2kg, chicken 700-1000 yen/kg, eggs 200-300yen/12 eggs, bread 100-200yen (6 cuts), cup noodles 100-200yen, mineral water 200-300yen/liter, juice 150-250/liter, milk 200-300yen/liter.
*all prices here is ranged based on my experience, :)

3. Bus and train ticket
Well, don’t read this if you plan to walk wherever you go. :D
Train will cost more if you go to farther place.  As for reference, please check here: http://jorudan.co.jp/english/ . Shinkansen ticket is expensive. You need to spend around 13000yen to go to Osaka from Yokohama. But you can get 10% or 20% discount (I forgot the exact value) for student, of course only if you’re student :) as for bus, near or far will cost you around 210yen.

4. Bill
Please don’t read this!! if ………. (please fill it by yourself :) )
Cellphone bill is different for each provider (Softbank, Docomo, AU etc.), so please check it on each related website. As for my experience, electricity, water, and gas bill cost around total 8000yen/month. But it will be higher on summer and winter.

Oh no!!! It’s already 12:00 p.m!! I need to sleep coz I have a morning class tomorrow!
Ok then, that’s all for today! See you again next time! Good night! :)

Other Activities

Nothing comes to my mind right now. I want to write anything about recently happened disaster in Japan, but it looks like many people have done that. So, maybe I’ll write something different.

“Other Activities” like it real means, this is about my activities beside doing research and studying at campus. “Activities”? Yeah, “activities” not “activity”. I’m kind of bored easily, so I need many different activity to keep my pace. Beside, it will be bad for your brain if you just doing research, research and research. :D

Here we come!

1. Playing Guitar
Guitar is my favorite instrument beside drum. I started playing guitar in my third year of Junior High School. Stopped playing it in my 1st year of Senior High School, but continued playing again in my 2nd and 3rd year. Somehow, I sometimes hate myself for not being able to play it well. But, in the end I play it again. Maybe this is what people call love. :D

My First Snow

Brrrrr..last week I was thinking that it’s spring already..but somehow, today is snowing again..

It’s been a while since my last post. This past months I was busy with reports and pre-research, so I couldn’t spend my time in updating this blog (I’m doing something else when I’m free).

Like what I’ve mentioned in my past post, I’m living in Yokohama-shi. By looking its location in the map, you can say that Yokohama-shi is an harbor area, and because of the wind from south-eastern Asia, it has a little chance of snowing (that what I’ve heard, the truth is I don’t know the exact reason, because that isn’t my field. :D ).

Yesterday I got an information from my Senpai (upperclassmen) that he felt the last thickest snow in Yokohama-shi was around 1992, and after that the snow isn’t thick enough. Commonly, the snow lasts for only one until two days, and falls about two until three times. As for this year, the snow falls three times, and the thickest is in the 2nd fall. I’ve taken some pictures:

Okay, that’s all for today, I don’t have anything to say again. Then see you in the next post (don’t know when :D )
